Spanish ESB plant targeted in bomb attack
12/07/2005 - 16:47:00The power station in northern Spain hit by four explosions today was an ESB operation.
The company confirmed this afternoon that no-one was injured in the attack.
The ESB plant is located in an industrial park on the outskirts of Amorebieta, near Bilboa in the Basque region of northern Spain. It’s in the final stages of commissioning.
Just before 1pm Irish time today, on foot of a warning from local police regarding a possible bomb threat, the plant was evacuated.
Four small explosive devices were detonated in the vicinity of the plant.
All personnel working on the plant are safe and a full security evaluation will be conducted with the Spanish authorities as soon as it's safe to do so.
