Ireland facing new EC action over environmental breaches

The European Commission has taken new legal proceedings against Ireland in relation to five cases involving breaches of EU environmental law.

In one case, the commission has sent Ireland a final warning for failing to heed a European Court of Justice ruling on ozone layer protection.

In two other cases, Ireland has been referred to the court for failing to implement a directive on environmental impact assessments (EIAs), while final warnings have also been issued in another case relating to EIAs and a case relating to noise.
