Govt to relax 'in camera' rule in family law proceedings
12/07/2005 - 08:00:08The Government is reportedly set to relax the 'in camera' rule that limits the people who can attend family law proceedings in the courts.
At present, only those directly involved in family law cases like divorce and child custody battles can be in attendance in the courtroom.
However, reports this morning said Justice Minister McDowell was set to sign a new order today that would allow family mediators and researchers to attend, but not journalists or pressure groups.
The 'in camera' rule had been criticised for preventing any public debate about how family law operates.
