The brewers of one of Ireland’s favourite alcoholic drinks were today toasting their success at a prestigious international awards ceremony.

Beamish Stout was presented with a Gold medal by the Monde Selection, the International Institute for Selections of Quality in Brussels.

The Monde Selection has been choosing the best beers in the world since 1961, and at the 44th World Selection of Beers, Beamish Stout was awarded a gold medal for its great flavour and excellent brewing quality.

The gold medal is one of the highest accolades awarded by the Monde Selection and is a recognition of the superb quality of Beamish Stout.

The judging panel found favour with the superb smooth, full and mellow flavour of Beamish stout with its slightly hoppy, roasty end character.

Alf Smiddy, Managing Director of Beamish & Crawford, said the company was thrilled by the stout’s success.

“Acknowledgement of the superb quality of Beamish Stout by the independent judging panel of the Monde Selection is a further endorsement of the brand’s high quality proposition,” he said.

“With Beamish Stouts’ roots firmly placed at the Beamish & Crawford Brewery in Cork where it is exclusively brewed we can be assured of this award winning consistent quality and taste.

“Consumers can really be assured that they are receiving the best of quality at a fantastic price.”

Beamish & Crawford, a wholly owned subsidiary of Scottish & Newcastle, is the oldest brewery in Ireland and its products include: Beamish Genuine Irish Stout, Beamish Red Irish Ale, Miller Genuine Draft, Carling Lager, Foster’s Lager, Foster’s Ice Beer and Kronenbourg 1664.
