Woods takes fifth national triathlon title
11/07/2005 - 13:33:13Cork-based Trevor Woods took his fifth national triathlon title in a very hotly contested Sprint-distance Triathlon Championships on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Anna Frankland from Dublin staged a remarkable comeback after injury earlier this season to win from full-time athlete Caroline Kearney.
Over 350 competitors completed the fast 750m swim, 20km bike and 5.5km run course but it was Woods who took the lead after the swim joined by German athlete Peter Kern.
Both had gained a slender 1 min lead over the chasers by the start of the run but Woods produced a fine run to cross the line in 59:45, well clear of his rivals.
A similar battle emerged between Frankland and Kearney on the bike, but it was 2004 national series winner Frankland who came out on top.
