Jet2 adds NI air route to Spain
Northern Ireland is to get yet another low cost air route to the Spanish sun, it was announced tonight.
Yorkshire based airline Jet2 is to begin flying from Belfast International Airport to Murcia next summer.
It said it was initially planning Saturday and Sunday flights for July, August and September 2006 – with more flights set to follow soon.
The airline said fares would start at £41(€59) single inclusive of taxes and it is taking booking immediately.
Close to the world-famous La Manga resort, Murcia is a gateway to the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida – and an alternative route into Alicante a 45-minute drive away.
Jet2 boss Philip Meeson said: “This area of Spain is hugely popular with tourists from both Northern Ireland and across in the Republic. We will be offering genuinely low fares to the Spanish Costas.”
The Leeds-Bradford based airline said it expected huge demand for its low fares and would be adding further flights to the Murcia schedule in the next few weeks.
Jet2 already flies to Barcelona from Belfast and will be in close competition on the Murcia route with easyJet which flies into nearby Alicante, as well as Malaga and Palma, Majorca.
