Ireland ranked sixth in Europe for days lost due to strikes
08/07/2005 - 11:56:27A European study has placed Ireland in the top half of a league table for working days lost due to strikes, despite an improvement in industrial relations over the past two decades.
The study found that in the 1980s, an average of 400 working days was lost through strike action for every 1,000 workers in Ireland.
This had fallen to just 45.5 working days by the early years of the new millennium, but that figure still leaves Ireland sixth in the league table.
Spain topped the table with 220 working days lost for every 1,000 workers, while Poland was bottom of the league with just 2.1 lost days.
