Tway benefits from Mayfair withdrawal
07/07/2005 - 09:44:18Former US PGA champion Bob Tway has been given a place in next week’s Open championship at St Andrews following the withdrawal of fellow American Billy Mayfair.
Mayfair qualified last Sunday from a mini-order of merit in America, but then turned the opportunity down for “scheduling and personal reasons”.
Tway comes in as the next highest player on the world rankings, as did Jose Maria Olazabal last Thursday when Seve Ballesteros pulled out of the field.
