Man and sons attacked in armed robbery

A man and his two sons were attacked during an armed robbery at their home, police said today.

The man, 50, has been kept in hospital after being repeatedly struck on the head after a number of masked men, armed with a gun, knife and baton broke into the family home at Greymount Parade, north Belfast, shortly before midnight.

His sons – one of whom is 15 – were assaulted while the gang made demands for the man to hand over money.

The house was ransacked beore the robbers made off with jewellery and cash.

The Police Service said the gang also tried to steal the family BMW, but were believed to have made off on foot after spotting a police car in the area.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to contact them.

Neither the hospitalised father or his sons suffered injuries which are life-threatening.
