G8 protesters breach security fence
06/07/2005 - 17:46:37Anti-G8 protesters breached a main security fence near the summit’s Gleneagles venue today.
Hundreds of protesters separated from a main march through Auchterarder and moved across a field towards a fence.
Led by black-clad protesters wearing crash helmets, a small group pulled down a 20ft section of the steel fence and threw rocks at police on the other side.
A policeman was forced to abandon a watchtower close to where the fence was pulled down.
Protesters were repelled by police dogs on leashes and about 100 riot police moved up to the breached fence.
