Roscommon chairman resigns

06/07/2005 - 14:11:28
The Roscommon county board are without a chairman after Stephen Banahan confirmed his resignation at a meeting last night.

This summer has been a far from memorable one for the Rossies - Frankie Dolan and Conor Beirne were axed from manager Val Daly's senior panel for disciplinary reasons last month.

Little Louth then dumped Daly's men out of the championship before the Roscommon county board this week revealed they are facing a financial crisis, to the tune of €1.5m.

On his resignation, Banahan cited recent disappointing results on the field and recent controversies involving player discipline and decided that in the best interests of the county he should step aside.

The audited accounts of the Roscommon county board are due to be discussed at Croke Park tomorrow night.
