Canavan scoops Ulster award

Tyrone veteran Peter Canavan has be rewarded for his brilliant return to All-Ireland SFC action by scooping the Tennents/Ulster GAA Writers monthly award for June.

The Red Hands' 2003 All-Ireland winning skipper returned from injury and contributed a match-winning total of a goal and seven points in the 3-19 to 0-7 semi-final replay defeat of Cavan.

The 34-year-old Errigal Ciaran attacker is gearing up for Sunday's Ulster SFC final against Armagh, ironically the team Tyrone defeated for All-Ireland glory two years ago, at Croke Park.

Meanwhile, the draw was made for the All-Ireland minor hurling quarter and semi-finals, earlier today.

Munster champions Cork and Leinster winners Dublin are both directly into the semi-finals.

There, the Rebels will face thw winners of Galway and Wexford, while the young Dubs, who claimed the capital's first minor hurling title since 1983 last weekend, will play whoever comes through the clash between Limerick and Ulster champions Antrim.
