Motorhead's Lemmy hospitalised with dehydration and exhaustion
Heavy rocker Lemmy Kilmister has been hospitalised in Germany after suffering from dehydration and exhaustion.
The British Motorhead frontman has been told to take it easy by doctors treating him, and he has scrapped a string of European shows as he recovers.
Kilmister was admitted to hospital on Saturday after playing non-stop in recent weeks - sometimes in the middle of European heatwaves.
In a statement issued by Motorhead, bandmate Mikkey Dee says: "I'm having to drink eight bottles of Gatorade as well as water just to get through these shows. I'm close to passing out and there's Lemmy sweating his ass off, drinking his Jack (Daniels) and Coke."
Motorhead manager Todd Singerman adds: "The simple truth is Lemmy's the classic rock 'n' roll juggernaut who has proudly defied human logic for decades, but even juggernauts need a bit of maintenance once in a while."
It's not the first time Lemmy's hard-living lifestyle has cost him concert dates - he was diagnosed with exhaustion and a lung infection five years ago, while on tour in Italy.
The rocker, who turns 60 on Christmas Eve, knows his hard living will send him to an early grave and so he has planned his funeral.
In an interview in 2002, Lemmy said: "Our albums will all be played in chronological order at a deafeningly loud volume and no one would be able to leave until they had listened to every single one."
Singerman insists Lemmy's latest health crisis isn't likely to kill him - but he'll have to learn to slow down.
