Doherty escapes broken ankle
04/07/2005 - 23:23:37X-rays today on Derry midfielder Fergal Doherty's suspected broken ankle, sustained in yesterday's second round qualifier defeat of Down, have failed to show up a fracture.
It is likely now that the Bellaghy giant, who has formed a formidable centre field partnership with Patsy Bradley, is suffering from ligament damage and he is to undergo further tests.
Mickey Moran dubbed Doherty "one of the outstanding midfielders in the championship to date" yesterday, and the Oak Leaf boss will have his fingers crossed that his regular number 8 can make an unlikely recovery in time for Derry's third round qualifier against Limerick on July 17.
