Benni sets deadline for Rovers move
South Africa international Benni McCarthy would appear to have set a deadline of this week to complete a move to Blackburn.
The Porto striker recently outlined his unhappiness with the Portuguese club, despite the fact he has been their top goalscorer for the last two seasons.
The 27-year-old has become frustrated following a number of rows with club officials that have thrust him into the spotlight, notably regarding his lifestyle and his refusal to join CSKA Moscow.
Although McCarthy has two years remaining on his current contract with Porto, he has made no secret of his desire to move to the Premiership, with Blackburn first choice.
After plying his trade in Holland, Spain and now Portugal, McCarthy undoubtedly sees his next destination as England, with Bolton and Newcastle also believed to be interested in his services.
But time is clearly of the essence for McCarthy, whose agent told Portuguese daily 24 Horas: “If this week there are no developments in relation to his transfer to Blackburn, that window of opportunity will permanently close.
“If he is not transferred this summer, he will carry on until the end of the two years which he has left on his contract with FC Porto.”
