Govt goes private in test backlog drive

The Government is set to invite private companies to carry out driving tests in an effort to clear the huge backlog.

The move to get private firms to conduct 40,000 tests-a-year was announced several months ago.

Reports this morning said the Government had posted a notice on a procurement website over the weekend seeking tenders from private companies.

The move is being introduced to double the amount of tests that are taking place and clear the backlog that has led to driving test waiting times of up to 15 months.
