Figures to reveal resurgent economy

Exchequer figures to be published today will provide further evidence of the continued strength of the Irish economy.

The mid-year figures are expected to show no sign of an economic slowdown, with tax receipts on target under almost all headings.

The figures are set to show a budget deficit of €600m for the first half of the year, which will be regarded as positive because the Government has budgeted for a deficit of €3bn for 2005 as a whole.
