Derry to meet Limerick in football qualifiers
The draw for the third round of All-Ireland SFC qualifiers has been made at Croke Park this evening.
Derry were first out of the draw drum and drew Monaghan/Wexford - but due to the Oak Leafers meeting Monaghan earlier in the Ulster Championship, Mickey Moran's side were paired against Limerick in what looks to be the tie of the round.
Derry edged the Shannonsiders 0-10 to 0-7 in the fourth round of the 2004 qualifiers, and held on to beat Down in today's second round.
Sligo and Clare were again drawn together. The two sides also met last year in the first round of the qualifiers, with the Banner men profiting 1-15 to 1-7 in Ennis.
Clare also emerged the victors in last August's Tommy Murphy Cup final against the Yeats men at Croke Park.
Monaghan and Wexford, meanwhile, clash next weekend in the only refixed second round tie with Louth - conquerors of Roscommon - awaiting the winners.
Meath's history of drawing Ulster opposition, having been handed down 'back door' beatings by Fermanagh in 2003 and 2004, continued as Sean Boylan's Royals were pitted against Cavan.
The GAA's Games Administration Committee meet tomorrow morning to set up the dates, times and venues for the third round qualifiers (to be played on the weekend of July 16-17).
The third round draw in full is:
Derry v Limerick
Monaghan/Wexford v Louth
Meath v Cavan
Sligo v Clare
