Woman taxi driver robbed

A female taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint in the North by a passenger, it emerged today.

The woman, who is in her 30s, picked up a fare on Ratheane Avenue, Coleraine, at 5.30am.

The male passenger asked her to go to Templebar in Castlerock but when she got there he pushed a sharp object at the woman’s head and ordered her to hand over her moneybag.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the sharp object was possibly a knife.

The man escaped with the moneybag.

He was described as being in his early 20s and of slim build with short dark hair which was slightly spiked and streaked.

Detectives in Coleraine appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
