Another Newmarket bid for Millenary
John Dunlop has confirmed that Millenary is on course for an attempt at a third victory in the Princess of Wales’s Edward St George Memorial Stakes, provided the ground is not too fast.
Now an eight-year-old, Millenary won next Wednesday’s Group Two contest in 2002 and 2003 and could again clash with Bandari, who he beat on the latter occasion.
Bandari took the race in 2004 and landed the Hardwicke Stakes last month.
However, Millenary was a disappointing last when favourite for the Yorkshire Cup on his only start this term.
“Newmarket is the plan, although it depends on the ground,” Dunlop told the Racing Post.
“He missed Royal Ascot at York because of the ground and, hopefully, it will be on the easy side at Newmarket. He’s in good order.”
The Arundel trainer could also be represented by Epsom Derby flop Kong, who carries the same grey and red colours of Neil Jones but Dunlop added:“It’s a bit too early to decide about him.”
