Details of autumn EU summit announced
01/07/2005 - 19:08:08The British Prime Minister today announced details of an informal EU summit that will take place in the autumn to allow leaders to debate the future direction of Europe.
Speaking in London, Mr Blair said the European Commission would prepare a paper for the talks on "the sustainability of the EU model”.
The announcement sets the stage for a clash between Britain and nations such as France which believe in the old-style Europe of social protectionism.
