Labour says Leaving Cert reforms don’t go far enough

The Labour Party has criticised the Government's planned reform of the Leaving Cert exam, saying it does not go far enough.

Education Minister Mary Hanafin has confirmed that she plans to introduce a system that would see students sitting earlier exams as well as those that take place in June.

This earlier exam would take place during the final school year and would account for 25% of the total marks in each subject.

Labour TD Jan O'Sullivan said she welcomed moves to reduce stress on Leaving Cert students, but believed Ms Hanafin could go much further and offer a greater variety of subjects to students.
