Rod Stewart 'not amused' by theft of sports car
Rod Stewart was not amused. In a statement to police after the theft of his powerful Viper performance car in 2004, the singer wrote: “Someone stole my Vier. I’m not amused.”
Yesterday, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Jack Cook sentenced Donald Michael Smith, 23, to 11 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to several charges, including stealing Stewart’s car and driving it into a canal.
Smith pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted sexual battery of a neighbour in two separate incidents.
The judge also ordered Smith, who had worked as a landscaper for Stewart, to complete a drug treatment programme after his release.
According to a police report, Smith drove off in Stewart’s Dodge Viper after he was fired from his job. The car had more than $15,000 (€12,400) worth of damage when it was found abandoned in a canal several hours later.
