Edu fires parting shot at Wenger

30/06/2005 - 20:03:39
Valencia midfielder Edu has accused Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger of freezing him out when it became clear that the Brazilian midfielder wanted to leave the London club.

Edu, in remarks made at his presentation by Valencia and reported on club website www.valenciacf.es, believed he would have no problems playing regular first-team football with Los Che.

“When you play for a great team there will always be competition,” said Edu.

“I am here to battle and I will do everything possible to always play.

“I have had an odd season with Arsenal. As I had played in the Copa America I arrived two months later, then I got injured and then came the possibility to join Valencia in the winter.

“My situation was a bit bad because Arsene Wenger put a lot of pressure on me and kept me out a little because I did not want to sign a new contract (with Arsenal).”

Edu, 27, had no doubts about his ability to settle in Spain, saying: “The English league is a little unusual and different to all the others.

“But I have played in Brazil and the game there is more like Spanish football.

“I do not think I will struggle to adapt and I think I will be ready to play soon.

“I have chosen to sign for Valencia because it is a strong club where I think I can win a lot of trophies.”
