Mobile phone industry questions Dáil recommendations
30/06/2005 - 17:37:54The Irish cellular industry has questioned a Dáil Committee recommendation that all mobile phones carry radiation warnings in future.
The committee also urged a ban on placing mobile phone masts near places where children congregate - such as schools, health centres, pitches or playgrounds.
There are 4,500 mobile phone masts in Ireland, which the group wants the Radiological Protection Institute to monitor. ComReg currently monitor the transmitters.
Tommy McCabe of the Irish Cellular Industry Association says that specific absorption levels are already listed on mobile phones: “As far as we're concerned, that confirms that all mobile phones sold in Ireland comply with national safety standards."
