ISME seeks complete review of benchmarking process
30/06/2005 - 13:20:00The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (ISME) has called for a complete review of the benchmarking process.
The scheme, which has been consistently opposed by business groups, was set up to decide on pay increases to bring salaries in the public sector in line with those in the private sector.
ISME said today that a study it commissioned found that the process lacked transparency and its cost far outweighed any benefits.
The association also claimed that trade unions had been perpetrating a lie by saying public sector workers were paid less than their private sector counterparts.
It said CSO figures showed that the average public sector wage was 41% higher than the average industrial wage.
