Inquest to be held into death of Dun Laoghaire baby

29/06/2005 - 08:13:15
The Dublin City Coroner is reportedly planning to open an inquest later this year into the death of a baby girl in Dun Laoghaire in 1973.

The girl's mother came forward in 1995 to tell gardaí she gave birth to the child in April 1973, when she was aged just 11.

The baby was found stabbed to death in a lane in Dun Laoghaire at the time.

The mother has also told gardaí that she had a second baby a number of years later and that the remains of that child may be buried in the garden of a house in Dalkey.

Gardaí are conducting a dig in the garden in the hope of finding the remains.

Reports this morning said detectives believe the woman may have been raped by her father and brothers over a number of years.
