Federer keeps sights on hat-trick

28/06/2005 - 07:09:10
Roger Federer remains on course for a hat-trick of Wimbledon titles after easing past Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero last night.

The top seed made the odd error but was still impressive as he overpowered Ferrero 6-3 6-4 7-6 to record his 33rd consecutive grass-court triumph.

The champion has dropped just one set this tournament and apart from the third set tie-breaker Ferrero rarely looked like troubling him, even though he tried desperately throughout to upset the rhythm of his opponent with some heavy baseline hitting.

“I am serving really consistent,” said Federer. “My movement is pretty good as well. I wish I could serve and volley more.

“Last year I played better than expected but my goal this year is Wimbledon and being number one in the world. I have lots of dreams left to chase.

“I always try to show the people I can do it over and over again. I am really happy how I have handled the pressure over the last few years and I played a really solid match.”
