Child Ombudsman seeks stronger powers
28/06/2005 - 13:32:39The Ombudsman for Children has expressed concern about limitations in the assistance she is allowed to give to children.
In her first annual report, Emily Logan criticised legal exclusions preventing her from investigating the treatment of children by the gardaí, the Defence Forces, the immigration authorities and the prison service.
Speaking at the launch of the report, Ms Logan called for a review of the legislation that contains these exclusions.
