Lohan and Hatcher unashamed at diamond bash

28/06/2005 - 11:06:24
Lindsay Lohan avoided confrontation the other night at a jewellery launch, after dozens of protesters turned up to rail against company De Beers supposed mining policy.

The starlet, as well as Desperate Housewives’ star Teri Hatcher, arrived for the bash on New York’s Fifth Avenue to be faced by a number of angry banner-wavers from Survival International, who say that the company’s diamond mine in Botswana has led to the eviction of local tribesman.

Previous spokeswomen for the company Iman and Erin O’Connor are thought to have given up their contracts when the rumours first surfaced and the celebs at the Manhattan bash faced taunts of “cultural genocide” and “shame on you!”

Lindsay responded to questions about the disturbance by saying: “I don’t get involved in any drama.”
