Shels close in on Cork
27/06/2005 - 21:25:37Shelbourne 1 Longford Town 0
The 100th league goal of Jason Byrne’s career, his 50th for Shelbourne, moved the champions to within three points of leaders Cork City.
But Longford, who hadn’t conceded a goal in their previous seven games, will feel they should have got something from this match.
The only goal came on 48 minutes when Town captain Barry Ferguson lost possession and Joseph Ndo played Byrne in to spin and shoot past Stephen O’Brien.
Dean Delaney prevented Shels from trailing at the break with a superb 24th minute double save from Davy Byrne and Andy Myler’s follow-up.
And man-of-the-match Delaney was there again to thwart what looked a certain equaliser when saving from Paul Keegan on 57 minutes.
