Rabbitte hopping mad at Govt attitude to Dáil
27/06/2005 - 11:18:09The Labour Party has hit out at the Government's attitude to the Dáil as TDs prepare to take their annual three-month summer break.
Party leader Pat Rabbitte said it was shameful the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition was refusing to extend the current term by one week to debate important legislation, including the Garda Bill and the Disability Bill.
Deputy Rabbitte also slammed plans by the Government to reform Dáil procedures in a way that will allow the Taoiseach to avoid questions from opposition leaders.
"This is completely unacceptable from a Taoiseach that has already sat less days in a parliamentary year than any of his predecessors," Mr Rabbitte said.
