IFA accuses Blair of CAP misinformation
27/06/2005 - 08:22:46The Irish Farmers Association has accused British Prime Minister Tony Blair of misleading European voters in connection with the Common Agricultural Policy.
Mr Blair has been sharply critical of the CAP in recent weeks, saying it takes up 40% of the EU budget at a time when resources are needed to boost research and development and create jobs.
However, in a letter to be handed to the British embassy, IFA president John Dillon says it is wrong to imply the CAP is depriving science and technology of resources.
Mr Dillon also insists that the CAP reforms agreed in 2002 must be honoured and not watered down.
