Two all-Ulster ties in qualifier draw

26/06/2005 - 19:43:54
Down and Derry, and Donegal and Cavan have been paired together in two of the standout ties for next Saturday's All-Ireland SFC second round qualifiers.

The draw, which took place tonight following the Munster SHC final at Pairc Uí Chaoimh, saw the eight first round qualifier winners drawn against the eight provincial semi-final losers from around the country.

Six of the counties drawn out were named as 'designated counties' and therefore will have home advantage next weekend. They include: Leitrim, Sligo, Carlow, Louth, Clare and Monaghan.

Kildare, who were drawn against Sligo, will travel with a deal of confidence having seen off the Yeats men 1-14 to 1-7 in round seven of this season's NFL Division 1B.

Paddy O'Rourke's Down have yet to play a county from outside of Ulster.

Having lost to Tyrone (1-6 to 1-13) in the Ulster quarter-finals and beaten Fermangh (1-11 to 0-7) two weeks ago in the qualifiers, the Mourne men will face Derry, semi-final losers to Armagh earlier today, in six days' time.

The third round of the qualifiers is scheduled for Saturday, July 16.

BANK OF IRELAND SFC SECOND ROUND QUALIFIER DRAW:

Carlow (at home) v Limerick

Sligo (at home) v Kildare

Louth (at home) v Roscommon

*Ties to be played next Saturday, July 2. The GAA's Games Administration Committee are meeting tomorrow (Monday, June 27) to decide the venues and times for the eight qualifier ties.
