Garda Bill squeezes through Dáil

The controversial Garda Bill is closer to becoming law after being passed by 58 votes to 41 in the Dáil last night.

Opposition parties attacked the Government over the manner in which it introduced more than 100 last-minute amendments without allowing for adequate debate.

They accused the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition of ignoring a Morris Tribunal recommendation calling for a complete review of the bill.

The amended legislation must now be cleared by the Seanad.
