Enterprise Ireland-assisted jobs slip by 1,300

The number of people employed in companies supported by Enterprise Ireland fell by 1,300 last year, according to the agency's latest annual report.

The government body, which is responsible for developing Irish industry, said its client firms created 12,000 new jobs in 2004 but 13,300 other jobs were shed.

This came despite the fact these clients saw their exports increase in value by 5.6% to more than €10bn during the year.

Enterprise Ireland said it helped 65 new businesses to get started in 2004 and invested €75m in Irish-owned companies.
