Oil prices continue to wobble London market

The London stock market slipped today as investors feared the impact of record oil prices might put too heavy a burden on corporate profits.

British Airways underlined the pressure facing oil-dependent firms as it raised the fuel surcharge on its long-haul flights and warned its fuel costs would be higher than last year.

Crude oil futures again hovered near yesterday’s record of $60 a barrel, leaving the FTSE 100 Index of leading UK companies 31.2 points adrift in mid-morning trading.
