Upbeat Rusedski gunning for Murray
Greg Rusedski was today coming to terms with another Wimbledon exit while at the same time lending a hand to Britain’s newest tennis sensation.
The British number two lost a late-night second-round encounter with Sweden’s Joachim Johansson 7-6 3-6 6-4 7-6, which ended with a dramatic fourth-set tie-break in the Centre Court gloom.
But then he immediately gave some tips to 18-year-old Andy Murray on how to play his match against 14th seed Radek Stepanek on Court One this afternoon.
“I spoke to Mark Petchey (Murray’s coach) straight after my match and gave him a few clues of what to do,” said Rusedski, who played Stepanek at Queen’s and again in an exhibition last week.
“Andy returns pretty well and that’s key to attack him. I told him what sides to attack on and I’d be really proud if he won that match.
“I was really proud the way he won his first-round match. He’s getting a lot of hype but he deserves it because he’s the US Open junior champion. He’s got a good attitude and I still want him to be part of the Davis Cup team.
“I see a bright future so hopefully more kids can follow his example.”
