Marlet looks for new loan deal
Fulham striker Steve Marlet is hoping to secure a new loan deal with a big European club after his two-year spell at Marseille ended this week.
The 31-year-old France international was loaned to the French side in 2003 before seeing his time with the Mediterranean giants extended by one season last year.
Marlet will now return to Fulham, who still hold his registration, but does not expect his stay at Craven Cottage to be long.
“My short-term future is in London, I will certainly restart training with Fulham in 10 days time,” Marlet said.
“I want to play at a high level and I hope that I will join a club engaged in a European competition. I really want to play in Europe again.
“With Marseille I played in the Champions League and reached the final of the UEFA Cup (in 2004 against Valencia). I really would like to experience that again.”
However, the former Auxerre and Lyon forward insists he would prefer to stay in England than make a quick return to France.
“Both the Ligue 1 and the Premier League interest me but I’d rather continue in England,” he added.
“I truly appreciate that championship.”
Marlet has 23 caps for France but has not featured for Les Bleus since the arrival of current coach Raymond Domenech in July 2004.
