IMO doctors to be balloted on GP-only medical-card deal
23/06/2005 - 08:43:57The Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has recommended acceptance of Labour Relations Commission (LRC) proposals that will pave the way for the introduction of doctor-only medical cards this year.
The LRC proposals were put forward in an effort to resolve a dispute between the IMO and the Department of Health over a number of pay issues.
Doctors had been refusing to co-operate with the new medical-card scheme until their concerns had been addressed and the IMO said last night that it was happy with what the LRC had put forward.
Reports this morning said the LRC recommendations were worth around €40,000 to every doctor in the medical-card scheme.
The IMO said the proposals would be put to a ballot of all its members over the next two weeks.
