Wright's father considers murder inquiry participation

22/06/2005 - 14:09:26
The father of murdered loyalist leader Billy Wright has said he has yet to decide if he will co-operate with the public inquiry into his son's murder.

Billy Wright, who established the Loyalist Volunteer Force, was shot dead by the INLA in December 1997 inside the Maze Prison.

There have long been unanswered questions about how the assassins managed to get a gun into the prison, how they gained entry to the LVF wing and how they were able to carry out the shooting without being spotted.

A public inquiry into the killing opened in Belfast this morning but it is unclear if the victim's relatives will co-operate.

The inquiry is being held under new legislation that allows the British government to withhold information for security reasons.

Rights groups believe this will prevent the truth from emerging.

Speaking in Belfast this morning, David Wright said he was taking legal advice before deciding if he is prepared to go along with this situation.
