Acute hospitals to receive €250m in capital funding

22/06/2005 - 07:20:10
Ireland's acute hospitals are reportedly set to receive almost half of all capital funding for the health service this year.

Reports this morning said a rough breakdown of how the funding will be spent was published last night by the Health Service Executive.

The reports said acute hospitals, including some which have been highlighting difficulties in recent months, would receive €250m of the €584 in funding allocated for this year.

€10m of this will reportedly be spent on accident and emergency units, while a significant amount will also be spent on providing extra hospital beds.

This morning's reports said the delay in announcing details of the how this year's capital funds would be spent had caused frustration in several hospitals, with officials complaining that they should not have to wait until mid-June for much-needed developments to be approved.
