Investigation raises questions about running of beauty salons
An investigation into four beauty salons in Dublin has reportedly raised serious questions about the way in which the sector is being run and the lack of official regulation.
Reports this morning said the investigation focused on laser treatment, which is becoming increasingly popular to remove thread veins, blemishes and unwanted hair.
A doctor posing as a client visited the four beauty salons asking them to remove a dark brown mark on her knee.
This morning's reports said three of the clinics did not offer the woman the option of speaking with a doctor or nurse prior to treatment, while two failed to assess that the mark on her knee indicated skin cancer.
The reports also said that some staff working in beauty salons lacked medical training, while some clients had suffered scarring and burns following laser treatment.
Doctors have warned that the lack of regulation in the sector is putting people at risk.
