24,000 new accounts opened at Permanent tsb

21/06/2005 - 12:06:09
Permanent tsb has opened up 34,000 new current accounts in the first six months of the year, after its decision to abolish the main transactional fees and charges.

23,000 of these, almost 1,000 a week, were taken out by new customers of the bank.

An additional 11,000 were accounted for by customers of permanent tsb upgrading basic ATM accounts into fully functional current accounts.

The 34,000 current accounts opened in the past six months represent a significant increase on the volume of accounts opened in other years.

For example, in the whole of 2003 the bank opened up 18,000 current accounts, while in the 12 months of 2004, the bank opened up 35,700 current accounts.

These figures have been published as part of a half-year review of the bank’s 2005 current account campaign.
