Laporta rules out Henry swoop

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has admitted Thierry Henry would be a great signing for the club but has ruled out a move for the Arsenal striker.

The Catalan side have already added two new faces to the squad since the end of last season, bringing in Mark van Bommel and Santi Ezquerro on free transfers.

And Laporta does not plan to sign any other players.

“Of course I would like to have Henry, he is a wonderful player and I have been told that he is a nice person but the squad is now closed save for an exceptional situation,” said Laporta.

“The coaches believe that we have a balanced team and we do not need more, and the directors have to follow the advice of the coaches and these are (Frank) Rijkaard and Txiki (Begiristain).”
