Hewitt cruises to first round victory
Number three seed Lleyton Hewitt has eased into the second round at Wimbledon with a 6-3 6-3 6-1 victory against Christophe Rochus.
The former champion Hewitt mixed some awesome power-play with occasional nervousness early on before stepping up a gear.
The match just ran away from Rochus in the third set as Hewitt clinched it 6-3 6-3 6-1 in 92 minutes.
The Belgian held his first service game and forced his opponent to save four break points to maintain a 2-1 lead with a 16th ace.
But Rochus’ fight was practically over after that in a one-sided contest where his serves and winners just did not match the player at the other side of the net.
Another breakthrough was inevitable and Hewitt set it up with a wonderful double-handed backhand for a 3-1 lead and there were two more breaks to follow as he made the rest just a matter of routine.
