Blues give Cunningham and Morrison extra rest
20/06/2005 - 16:48:58Birmingham's Irish duo Kenny Cunningham and Clinton Morrison have been given permission to report back late for pre-season training because of their international commitments earlier this month.
Skipper Cunningham and striker Morrison were in action for the Republic of Ireland in two World cup qualifiers while right-back Mario Melchiot was involved with Holland.
The majority of the Birmingham squad will begin the preparations for the new campaign on July 6 but the other trio will not have to join up until July.
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce is conscious of the need for them to have time to properly recharge their batteries.
Bruce said: “The players who were involved in World Cup qualifiers – Cunningham, Morrison, Melchiot – will not come back in for training until July 11.”
