Ministers must be accountable, says ex-ombudsman
20/06/2005 - 13:33:15A former ombudsman has said successive ministers of health must accept responsibility for the scandal surrounding illegal nursing home fees.
The charges were allowed to continue from 1976 until late last year, but the Travers Report into the matter exonerated all ministers who served during that time from any wrongdoing.
Speaking in Dublin today, Kevin Murphy, who has long been campaigning for more ministerial accountability, said ministers had to take responsibility for what happens in their departments.
