Tourist group urges action to lure visitors to rural areas

The tourism industry has called for measures to help reverse a decline in visitors to rural parts of Ireland.

The Irish Tourist Industry Confederation said research it commissioned found Dublin was growing in popularity as a tourist destination, but areas outside the capital were suffering serious losses.

The body has blamed this on a reduction in tourists from Britain and the rest of Europe, as well as changes in the type of holiday that people are opting for.
