Dairygold plan new €15.6m R&D centre
A new €15.6m research and development centre is to be constructed at Dairygold's facility in Mitchelstown in Co Cork.
The new centre, supported by Enterprise Ireland, will be operational by the end of 2007 and will employ 15 researchers. Ultimately, the R&D centre will have a capacity for a total of 50 personnel and it is expected that this capacity will be reached post 2007.
Dairygold is Ireland’s third largest food and agri-business provider with a workforce of 1,800.
Minister for Enterprise Micheál Martin hailed today's announcement as a huge boost for the Irish food industry.
"The future lies in the development of new and innovative high value added health enhancing food products through the application of science, technology and innovation, a key focus of the new Enterprise Ireland Strategy – Transforming Irish Industry," said Minister Martin.
